My 82 year old grandfather is just so darn cute. I visited him on Wednesday 2/21/11 to have a very yummy pancake breakfast. (btw, as a child I was certain he had invented pancakes, because he was/is a master at making them. They are perfect!) After we watched Price is Right, and Millionaire (Who wants to be a Millionaire, he shortens the title) he kept seeing news reports about the inaugural day of the Inter County Connector (ICC) which is this new glorious toll road that has just opened. Well, one section of it. Apparently, being a surveyor all his life, he is still interested in where things are put. He actually surveyed the surrounding lands in his early years. Even then, he had to work around the proposed ICC. So, on this wonderful sunny day, my grandfather asked me if I wanted to go drive the new road. Of course I do! How simple to just drive down a road but to know how excited he was to go on our adventure made me feel all warm & fuzzy. I'm glad I got to go on the journey with him, and relive his stories around the surrounding land as we made it down the new ICC stretch...in 17 minutes. (Yes, he timed it. We synchronized our watches & headed on the open road. And for the record, it was faster than the old way!). I know one day, years from now, I'll be driving down that road & thinking of that moment.
