Open Minded

So, I am finally going to be meeting my father face-to-face on Saturday afternoon. Its so strange to me that this is actually happening. This kind of feels like a first date. I know, that sounds gross, but it has all the makings without the intentions. What picture has he formed in his head about what I look like? Is he going to compare me to his other daughter? Oy, this is very nerve racking. I'm trying to play it cool as my friends are continuously talking about it, but I am quite nervous.

We will be doing a paternity test while he is here. In fact, I feel like that is the driving force behind him traveling all this way. I get that by getting the results of this test we (HE) will know once and for all and then can have some conversations with people in his family.

I'm just going to roll with this all and just know that I am so loved and supported that none of this really matters...no, it does matter it just can't take over me.

Pirate Bar

There is this random, obscure little bar here in Silver Spring called the Piratz Tavern. So, a group of friends ventured in and it boy, it was an experience!

All the staff are dressed as Pirates and bar wench's...and these people are really into their roles! They were quite dramatic and eccentric...but hey they were having fun.

I ordered a rum cake for dessert. You get carded for this desert. Not even joking! It was completely soaked with Rum. Adding 2 glasses of another rum concoction and I was a tad tipsy!

All in all a really fun evening with friends. We rounded out the fun with a game of cards.

beautiful day

Today was an absolutely beautiful day! Generally living in the D.C. area, we are afflicted with awful humidity which makes me want to stay indoors and eat ice cream! Humidity is also NOT a curly girl's (like myself) friend. Well, today was just one of those nice summer days without all that humidity! It was awesome. I even rolled my window's down on the way home from work. You know the feeling when the changeover from winter to spring begins, and you have one really nice day finally and you roll all the windows down and drive a little faster? Today was that day for me :) I leave you with this quote:

" Sometimes we forget who the best people in our lives are because they're just so great that we don't realize it. Sometimes the people that love you the most just can't show it, and even though they hurt us so bad we still remember them, because they made a difference. Sometimes the things in life you value most don't even really mean a thing at all. But when you drive with the windows open and you feel the wind and you smile for no reason, it's because everything comes together and you know that we all feel this way at some point in our life. We all love, and get let down, we all have dreams and hopes, we all are the same in some way. We just realize it but don't realize we realize it. And it makes perfect sense in someway." - Drakeson Readily.

Pride '10

This was taken during a rain storm in the middle of the festival of DC's annual pride celebration. All the gays ran for cover for fear of their hair gel malfunctioning...so I just stood in the middle with my arms up in the air and my head back taking it all in! It actually felt pretty good in the 95+ degree weather.

All in all it was pretty uneventful...I think the heat and the fact that we had all partied hard the night before at our queer-b-que played a big part in our ahh fuck it...let's go home in the air conditioning!

We did, however, continue the day-o-gayness by watching the Tony awards. I of course, being the Academy Awards fan, was kind of bored...but the Queens loved it!! Haha!

Bird down!

Today something awful happened. I was minding my own business in the kitchen doing various things on the computer when a baby bird flew right into our sliding glass door! First of all it scared the CRAP out of me! The small bird was laying helpless on its side gasping for air. I immediately started crying (I am such a sucker) and was trying to figure out ways to help it. My roommates were concerned for the sobbing that likely was about to occur, and forced me into the living room.
I went back about ten minutes later and this sweet little guy (we are going to now refer to it as a him) had gotten himself onto his feet! At this point his eyes were closed and his little beak was wide open. My roommates were about to put a shovel to its head (bastards!) To end the suffering, but I made them wait. I knew he was strong and if after hitting a window at a fast rate of speed and then bringing itself to its feet...I knew he could do it.

The little guy sat there for quite sometime. I did start to worry because he kept closing his eyes and he was really breathing heavy. I finally walked outside and talked to the bird. (Yes, I do talk to animals...I can't help but think they are understanding me). Jason came outside and told me to go inside, that he was going to put it out of his misery. I yelled NO! And in that moment the bird started walking and flew over to the fence.

My story about my bird friend is probably quite corny, but I don't care. My god, if that little guy could have the courage to not just lay there and die, then I certainly can do the same.
